O2 Celebrates International Volunteering Day
17 October 2012
Telefonica International Volunteering Day is an annual event on the Telefonica calendar, where employees across the globe take part in volunteering activities. This year’s event took place on Friday 5th October and in Ireland 160 employees took part in a range of activities in Dublin and Limerick.
As well as celebrating employees for their involvement as mentors in the Think Big programme, O2 wanted to recognise the many other community groups and charities their employees support. Events included painting the Jigsaw Clondalkin office for Headstrong, painting a mural in Limerick Youth Service and painting the railings at Bolands Mills. Employees also took part in a charity soccer match and climbed Croagh Patrick in aid of AreYouOk.ie, and donated clothes, books and toys to Enable Ireland and the Irish Deaf Society.
Tony Hanway, O2 CEO and Tony Bates, Headstrong CEO held a special Think Big Mentor session to say thank you to all our O2 mentors who have supported over 230 Think Big projects since launching in September 2010.
Think Big is a programme designed by O2 and Headstrong, The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, that enables young people to do projects in their community that make a difference to young people’s mental health. www.o2thinkbig.ie
