Laoise Duffy (aged 2), Castleknock and Caoimhe Fitzsimons (aged 6), Ashbourne, Co Meath with the cheques for the nominated charities of Irish LifeAt the start of every year everyone in Irish Life gets to vote to pick two charities of their choice, one an Irish charity working at home and one an Irish charity working abroad. This year we picked Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children’, Crumlin and ‘The Cyril Duncan Siam Children’s Foundation’ which supports projects for vulnerable children in Bangkok, Thailand..

Once we’ve picked our two charities in January we develop a fundraising calendar for the year made up of a series of events and activities.  For example this year we ran a very keenly contested Strictly Come Dancing competition, Operation Transformation – Irish Life style and book sales among other events.  Additionally, staff members signed up to a staff charity salary deduction scheme facilitating a voluntary donation each month.

This year we’re delighted to have raised €140,000 for our two nominated charities – ‘Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin’ and ‘The Cyril Duncan Siam Children’s Foundation’. The fact that the nominated charities are causes close to the heart of employees makes our efforts even more worthwhile.  For us it is more than just the money, it’s the personal time, the team support and connection and the stretching personal challenges that make it really special and fulfilling.  It is a great lift to staff to make this donation especially at Christmas time.

We’ve worked hard supporting Irish and International charities since 1995 and we were thrilled last year to have hit the €1million milestone in funds raised for worthy causes.

Some of the charities that have benefited from the Irish Life Staff donations include the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Special Olympics, People in Need, the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Goal, Aids Partnership Africa, the Niall Mellon Township, The Belvedere Boys Club, and many more.

On behalf of all the staff in Irish Life here’s to a very Happy Christmas!

Sé Weston, Chairperson of Irish Life Staff Charities
